Kitten Stool: A Sustainable and Customizable Design

A Contrast of Beauty and Functionality

The Kitten Stool, designed by César Bejarano, is a stunning piece of furniture that combines beauty, functionality, and sustainability. With its unique design and eco-friendly materials, this stool offers a customizable seating solution for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

The inspiration behind the Kitten Stool was to create a piece that was not only visually appealing but also easy to manufacture and transport. Bejarano wanted to create a contrast between seemingly opposing concepts, such as the brightness of the colors with the grayness of the seats and the coldness of the steel with the warmth of the felt. The stool was also designed to be soft and comfortable to sit on, giving the user a floating sensation despite the lack of a backrest.

What sets the Kitten Stool apart from others is its eco-friendly construction. The body of the stool is made from folded and cut recycled aluminum, while the seat is made from 100% recycled PET felt. The seats are removable and interchangeable, allowing owners to customize their stools further or even create their own seats. This not only adds a personal touch to the design but also reduces waste by extending the lifespan of the stool.

In terms of functionality, the Kitten Stool is easy to ship and stack. The stools can be piled one on top of the other, and the seat can be attached on-site, making it convenient for both manufacturers and consumers. The materials used in the construction of the stool also make it suitable for use indoors or outdoors without deterioration.

Measuring approximately 45 cm in height and 55 cm in width, the Kitten Stool is designed to be both structurally strong and visually appealing. Its slightly curved shape adds to its strength, while the space under the seat can be utilized for storage.

Despite its simplicity, the Kitten Stool presented some challenges during its development. Finding a manufacturer that could produce the stool without requiring large quantities was a hurdle. However, once the manufacturing process was streamlined, the stool became an affordable and accessible piece of furniture.

The Kitten Stool was developed by César Bejarano and his team in Madrid, starting in December 2016 and completed by the end of March. It has since entered production and is now available for purchase.

Recognized for its well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities, the Kitten Stool was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2017. This prestigious accolade is given to creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.

With its sustainable materials, customizable design, and award-winning status, the Kitten Stool is a true testament to the fusion of art, architecture, design, and innovation in the realm of lifestyle.
